Call it a Come Back

Aug 29

Back in January, I started #runstreak, a goal to run a mile a day for 100 days straight.  I modified my goal because I walk, then run, then walk, then run it home.  I modified it again to run 5 days a week.  Sometimes I ran twice.  If I was injured I wouldn’t run at all.  To make myself accountable I posted my progress, along with anecdotes, on Fridays.  Then I decided it was silly to not run on Saturdays so I switched the post to Saturdays.  I didn’t stop at 100 days either; it became too important so I kept it up.

Some time ago someone told me, “I don’t read those.  I don’t need to know about your running.”  At first I blew it off, because I really truly write them for me (and Nami, who is the only person who reads every single post).  After awhile I stopped writing them because I felt silly writing something nobody cared about (except Nami).

Yesterday I came to my senses.  When have I ever cared about what anybody else thinks?  When have I ever done what anybody else says?  When I write these posts, it does inspire me to #runstreak.  If I’m not held accountable by Nami or stranger #4 or even myself for having to write the post, then why should I run?

That being said, Listen Up People!!  Effective immediately my Saturday Runstreak/Update will be returning.  Read it or not; I don’t care.  This isn’t for you.

It’s for Nami and me.

Kim, my friend, my sister-from-another-country, you know you’re just a little bit crazy sometimes, right? I’ve been wondering what happened to your runstreak posts. I didn’t want to ask, just in case it was a sore point for some reason. (I’m also a little crazy sometimes.) But just so you know, I may not have commented on every single one of the #runstreak posts, but I read them all.

I also don’t generally comment on your scavenger hunt ones, but that’s just because I’m clueless about photography and don’t want to look like an idiot on your blog. I save my idiocy for my own blog, thankyouverymuch. But I still open and read/view your post every single week.

One thing I appreciate about WordPress blogs is that little “Like” button that you can push if you enjoyed the post, but really don’t have anything that you’d like to add to the conversation. It seems really lame to comment with “Me too” or “Great blog” or whatever. So I find myself scanning for a ‘Like’ button, and then shrugging and figuring that you’ll know how awesome you are even if I don’t leave a boringly mundane comment.

Anyway, back to the point of this comment (which is probably still boringly mundane, but you kinda asked for it): I’m glad you’re bringing back #runstreak posts. Good for you. And if I don’t comment, it doesn’t mean I don’t care. It just means I’m probably terribly jealous of you, with your commitment to running every day AND coming up with witty anecdotes while you do it, on top of all the other stuff, like working from home in your pjs and your hot husband and your hilariously funny teenage son.

Also, I just noticed that my comment is longer than your post. Because I suck.

Hahaha! Jo Eberhardt you do NOT suck. I don’t comment on a lot of blogs ether. I just assumed nobody was readoin them because one person said she doesn’t. That’s when I get for assuming, huh?

Oh gosh now I feel like I’ve pressured you!! Your Tweet Cheers are plenty!!! And there’s always one and sometimes two other random cheers. Love.

Kim- I, too read every single one of your posts as I truly enjoy most of them. I don’t comment much because sometimes I just feel I might say the wrong thing that could distance us even more then it has due to a past issue. I also, wondered where your #runstreak posts went, but figured you probably just stopped doing them but I do enjoy reading them.

Now that I finally got a library card, I am going to start reading some of the books you have reviewed. So keep all the blogs coming.

  4. Me too! Great Blog! LOL. I love all your posts and I think you are a fantastic motivator by posting it! Dont ever stop.

  5. You’re a badass.

    So is Nami:)

  6. So glad you explained it! I was wondering where they went, thought maybe you took the summer off, you were on vacation or you were sick or hurt.

I read them, I don’t really comment but I say a silent “Go you!” after them because I think your commitment to your running is amazing.

So consider this a perpetual “Go you!” and keep posting and running because you are awesome.

Thanks Michelle. You know you are one of my inspirations. I will never shake that post you wrote.

      • I have no idea how I inspire you. I am nothing but fat and lazy these days. YOU inspire me. I’m getting back on the exercise wagon after a few failed attempts to restart. So consider this my announcement of my own walk-streak :)

  7. Straight Up! I enjoy reading them because you prove I’m not alone in self-torture. Running is hard enough, but with two dogs and other dumb pedestrians in the way…girl, you are my HERO!

  8. Good for you…. I had a lot of people in my life tell me the same about my weekend wisdoms but I thought eh I don’t write those for you. I write those for the people who read them!

I LOVE your weekend wisdoms. I know what they are when I get them and I smile before I open them.

  9. Good for you! I like to live vicariously through your run posts: “Whoa…Kim ran so much! I ran 3 blocks. I’m glad she picked up the slack.”
