Noah’s Birthday – A Re-post to Celebrate my Second Blogiversary

Aug 05

Two years ago today I opened a WordPress (dot) com blog and published my first post.   I posted for me.  I was feeling this blogging thing out,  seeing how I liked it and exploring my writing.  I started looking around, read other blogs, started following and was followed back a bit.  After several months and 79 followers I decided to up the ante a bit and moved over to WordPress (dot) org, taking a big chance by leaving my followers behind, with only a hope that they would follow.   I now have a bit more creative freedom.  My blog looks more like I want it to look.  I’m still not blog-famous like I hoped I’d be but I do have a steady following and I enjoy expanding out, linking up photographically and making lists, following prompts or interpreting quotes.  I write funny, serious, snarky,  boring stuff about whatever and lots of stuff about my pups, Noah, Hot Joe and stupid annoying people who drive me nuts for existing in this world.  I post a photo a day under my 366 tab.  I review books and share occasional recipes.  I tweet, Facebook, Stumble and Linkin my posts.  I love it.  Everything I do I’m blogging in my mind.  I’m constantly looking for the next photo, the next writing subject.  I write, re-write, delete, start something new, prepare to link-up, change my mind and then close my computer.  This is the most exiting, amazing, terrifying, frustrating, creative, satisfying thing I’ve ever taken on and I hope to keep on going, gathering subscribers or not, blog-famous or not, because this is my creative outlet.  This is how I vent.  I. LOVE. THIS.

To celebrate my 2nd blogging anniversary I’ve decided to re-publish my very first post from August 5, 2010, the day after Noah’s birthday.  As my first post it should have been about Noah, but it instead ended up being about my nephew – funny, goofy, wonderful, beautiful Wyatt.  Enjoy:

Joe and I took Noah and Wyatt to Hurricane Harbor yesterday for Noah’s 11th birthday.  At multliple points during the day I gave Noah updates on my “condition:”  “I’m starting to really feel the contractions, Noah!  My water will be breaking in (fill in the blank)!  I just got my epidural!”  He appreciated the updates and apologized for the pain.

Noah is ALWAYS funny; let’s face it, he’s my biological son and also the son of Joe, and we are funny!!  However, Wyatt was ON yesterday.  We started taking notes of funny things he said on the freeway enroute to the park.  So today, even though it was Noah’s birthday, this first blog of mine is dedicated to funny Wyatt-isms:

  • We are on the freeway headed to the water park and Wyatt says, “I know how to get there.  You just go all the way until you get to Canada.”  I responded, “Hurricane Harbor isn’t in Canada.”  Wyatt: “I know.  I just wanted to say that.”
  • We’re in line to enter the parking lot, with about 200 cars in front of us.  After about 5 minutes, Wyatt turns to Noah and says, “We’re not gonna be the first ones in Noah.”
  • We are in line for a slide and in the distance over the trees you can see several rollercoasters at the adjacent amusement park, Magic Mountain.  As we watched one of the coasters hit the crest of a hill, Wyatt says, “Any last words?”
  • The boys decided to go down a slide called Lightning Falls, which Joe and I both opted out of.  There are three choices; one is essentially a drop out – straight down.  The middle slide drops almost straight down, evens out and then another straight hill.  The third slide curves but is completely in a tunnel.  All three of these slides require the rider to lie completely flat on his or her back with feet crossed and hands supporting the neck.  Joe and I waited at the bottom, fully expecting to see the boys hang-dogging it back to us after they got to the top and realized their grievous error.  Meanwhile, we’re watching all the other brave souls fly down these slides.  Funny observation:  Due to the position each rider must hold in addition to the force of the water, 1/6 girls commented, “Wedgie!” upon reaching the bottom, which added to our list of reasons NOT to ride those stupid slides, not to mention the air some of these people caught!  Much to our surprise, after about 40 minutes we look up and see Noah flying down the slide, and 1 minute later down flew Wyatt.  His response to the slide?  “Wicked!!”

One slide in particular was completely enclosed, and black in color.  We carried our inner tubes up several flights of stairs, and with each flight Noah became more excited and Wyatt became more scared.  He twice told us he was just going to wait at the bottom but I told him he had to go, and if he didn’t like it when he reached the bottom he could punch Uncle Joe as hard as he could in his arm.  Joe and I went first, and about 5 seconds in when it went completely pitch dark and I had no idea where the next turn was, I thought, “Oh God.  Wyatt’s going to HATE this.”  I wanted nothing more than to turn back and tell them, “He doesn’t have to go!  Don’t make him go!”  As soon as I hit the bottom I turned to Joe and said, “Wyatt’s going to HATE this.”  We both waited anxiously for him to appear, and the first words out of his mouth were, “The Best!!!”

We all had an amazing time and hit as many slides as possible sometimes even more than once.  Bad parts:  Spending $45 for four meals after waiting an hour in line, only to have the boys’ orders screwed up and they were given the wrong meals.  Apparently neither boy likes chicken nuggest (who knew?).  Other than that, it was smiles and laughter all around (with a couple of screams now and again).  Next time, we’re bringing our own meal and renting our own inner tubes to decrease the line-waiting time.

Until next time,

~Kim

I was just wondering, if today is August 5th and Noah’s birthday is on August 4th; how you were able to write this blog a day ahead of time, on August 3rd? Maybe you can blog on time travel tomorrow. I am most impressed and would definitely read it. Until next time, many blessings and prayers for no carpel tunnel. P.S. I am, I hope, the first of what I’m sure will be many followers of your blog. I checked the “subscribe by email to this site” box. I will keep my email open at all times to receive the upcoming alerts. I’m so excited!

The funny thing is… Wyatt probably did not say any of those things to be funny. He probably REALLY thought he would be the first one in line… he probably really thought it was near Canada … BTW – he LOVES chicken nuggets….

ALL of that made me Laugh Out Loud !

  3. –How Fun!
Your son sounds like quite the character :) ) X

  4. Happy Blogiversary! I can totally relate to all the why I blog reasons. It’s the best. And what a great first post.

    To many more blogiversaries!!!

Happy Blogiversary! Wyatt sounds like my son, he loves scary stuff. He once went down a log flume ride by himself at the age of five (I made sure to kill my husband for letting him do that after I found out)

  6. That Wyatt is a riot! Ha, ha – bet he gets that a lot. Happy Anniversary, by the way – I’m not sure what you mean by “blog-famous” but all I can say is, can you please start notifying your blog posts more frequently than once a week? I’m just too lazy (and chubby – okay, sometimes inebriated) to go the long way.

Wyatt’s ridiculously funny sometimes. Very dry. Noah is hilarious too, but he’s me. I will happily send you a personal notification every time I post since you comment the most. You’re my Comment Queen from Queens. That’s funny, right? Way funnier than Wyatt. Right?

  7. Love the memories you are helping my boys to have. They will look back at all of them and laugh out loud just as you and all of the Spence Clan does. It is terrific!
