Weekly Update With Runstreak
Sep 28
Monday, Listening to: The Pain Nurse, audio book
Okay I’m TOTALLY into this audio book now. It’s all I focus on. Thank you Jamie at Chosen Chaos!!! My runstreak today was good-n0t-great. Struggling a bit with the running part, but it’s okay because I’m out there getting my exercise and the time is still actually good. I got in my five days last week and I hope to do the same this week. The best part I’m sure you can guess: Luke did not poop. So proud.
Tuesday, Listening to: The Pain Nurse, audio book
Luke did not make me proud today. In fact, he was downright annoying. He attempted to pee 7 times. SEVEN TIMES. Then, just to add insult to injury, he pooped. What the hell, dog? Mind you, I get it. I understand what it’s like to absolutely have to poop right now no matter what and where am I going to go because I’m miles from home or my car so I hide in the bushes, buckle down and push through it. But you don’t see me peeing every five minutes. He would run ahead, stop, start to pee, and when I jerked him back he’d go back to running. I don’t want to hear from any of you feeling sorry for him either. He’s marking. It’s 7:52 as I type this and he has YET to pee.
Wednesday, Listening to: The Pain Nurse, audio book
Luke pooped. Dammit Luke. It’s always such a violent experience. We’re running along and suddenly he stops and I’m jerked backwards. Who knew such a little guy could have such strength? Two similar things happened. I was headed up Haigh, on the right side of the street with traffic. Up ahead I noticed a man headed down towards me. Had it been just him I would have checked the road and stepped into the street with the pups, leaving him to the sidewalk. However, he had a dog with him and he was headed towards traffic, so it’s his responsibility to step into the road and let my pups and I stay on the sidewalk. I held my ground headed toward him and he eventually did step into the street. Soon after this, I encountered a woman with her two small dogs headed toward me. Yes, she was older than I, but she was still facing traffic and I wasn’t, so I again held my ground until she stepped into the street and let us pass. Hot Joe supported my decision. Peter didn’t because she was older than me. Tomorrow I’m making Peter do my runstreak and I will sit on the floor dipping Oreos in milk while he watches.
Thursday, Listening to: The Pain Nurse, audio book (almost done!!!)
(font change – can’t fix it – so ugly)
Luke did NOT poop! Oh no wait…yes he did. I just remembered. I’m struggling a bit with the running portion of my streak. I’m running, for sure, but I can’t hold it up as long. It’s actually not that big of a deal, because I’m losing like a minute total, but I’m very frustrated. I’m feeling lightheaded when I run. What’s that about? Heading up the hill today I was gaining on two women walking two tiny dogs. One was wearing orange-pink capris pants and a three-quarter sleeve horizontally striped white and orange-pink shirt with a lace collar. Not a pretty outfit. She had turned around a couple of times and saw that I was in the street but she still let her dog jump into the street and run around on its retractable leash. It really annoyed me because here I am choking up on my dogs’ leashes and she’s letting her dog run around acting stupid. As I came up on them, she laughed while her little dog ran at my two dogs that I was clearly attempting to keep a firm grip on. What the hell? I didn’t turn around at the top of the hill and head back down. I didn’t want to see them again, I was lightheaded, and my day sucked a little bit. So I went home. But I went out, so that’s still progress.
Friday, Listening to: The Pain Nurse, audio book (last chapter!)
Today was kind of uneventful – kind of. The sweet elderly couple who always asks how the babies and I are doing crossed the street as I approached them. I pulled one of my headphones out and said, “You suddenly don’t trust us?” The lady said, “Oh no!!” and showed me two wooden scoops. She bent down, scraped a dead squirrel up off the street, tossed it into the dirt and said, “It’s so sad. They’re such sweet creatures. But we always love passing you guys!!!” It was a bit awkward. I also passed the hat-tipping man. I love my old people.

Squirrels are “sweet creatures”? Obviously, they’ve never met the ones from Queens. And orange is the official “going for a run” color – even in New York. Honestly, I’ll be glad when you get back to running to music. Can’t imagine what Pain Nurse sounds like…painful, probably.
Good for you for streaking five days in a row, Kim! That is awesomesauce!!
I wonder if listening to the book is curbing into your running. I mean, when I am walking/running, the music motivates me to continue running – perhaps the reading doesn’t motivate as much as pass the time.
Goooo Kim!!
